We arrived at this  new branch of the Patisserie Valerie chain on a slightly drizzly day at mid-morning. We got a table with no trouble and found that there is table service, which I wasn’t expecting. There were a couple of other customers having late breakfasts which looked great, but we went for coffee and cakes, or in my case tea and cakes.

Red berry tea arrived served in a tea pot for one, and was leaf tea in a pot that had an in-built strainer – so top marks there. The tea pot and cup came served on their own wooden serving plate. The tea was terrific, a real ruby red colour with a nice tangy, slightly sour taste. Coffee is by Illy and was good. The cherry frangipane was light and the almond croissant was flaky and with just the right proportion of almond filling. Service was polite and friendly and not rushed.

The only slight downside is that the main loos were being decorated and so were closed, although if the single disabled loo is anything to go by they’ll be very nice when they’re finished.

I’d imagine that getting a table here at lunch time will be tricky, but I’d definitely recommend for a mid-morning snack, or mid-afternoon cakes.
