Greenfields Cafe, Exhibition Road, South Kensington

This is a small independent cafe, near the tube and the museums. The clientele include young, straight, ruby playing Kensington types and tourists. Downsides are that there are no toilets. It is a little on the expensive side – cakes from £1.50 to £2.20 ish and sarnies starting at £3.55. And I should also say it doesn’t take cards either. But it does accept the Wedge Card, currently offering a free shot of syrup in coffees.
Food is good – freshly made up sarnies, soup, quiche, a pasta dish and a stew. Cakes and biscuits all looked great. Drinks include coffee and free fruit juices. We had a decaf latte and a strawberry and banana smoothie. Tea not recommended – PG Tips tea bags in a mug.
We always seem to have trouble finding a cafe in this area – or at least one that isn’t a chain, and in the middle of a Saturday afternoon this place had less queues than the Hummingbird Bakery which was another option nearby, so I would recommend this as a juice and cake spot.
Sagar, Percy Street, London W1

This venue on Percy Street is one of a handful of London branches of Sagar, a chain of South Indian veggie restaurants. It’s a really good reasonably priced veggie restaurant with loads of choices on the menu, including regular curries and also a range of other dishes as well.
We had homemade lemonade, bhel puri, a masala dosa, an uthappam, followed by almond kulfi and payasam. The dosa was stuffed with potato and vegetables and the uthappam came studded with onion, tomato and coconut. Both came with smabar and a cocnut chutney. Both were great, the uthappam probably just has the edge. Almond kulfi was ok, although in my book not as tasty as pistachio flavour. The payasam was excellent though, a milk vermicelli pudding flavoured with nuts and cardomoms.
This came to £25 not including service. Will definitely be back.
Imporient tea

Picked up two Imporient fairtrade English Breakfast tea bags at a Fairtade Fortnight stall. Verdict is a strong cup of deeply golden brown tea, but could have done with a bit more flavour. Would definitely try their leaf tea though…
